The Penny Coffee House has been a Lethbridge favourite for over 25 years. A place to gather, connect, and enjoy fine food and beverages.

OUR STORY

Formerly a haberdashery, The Penny Coffee House opened its doors in 1991. The current owners are Cara Draffin and her two sons Jacob and Logan, who have been long time customers of the Penny Coffee House. Jacob Ramsdell is the co-owner/manager who has worked in the restaurant industry since his early teens. Jacob (Jake) started out his restaurant adventure at Coco Pazzo Italian Cafe in Lethbridge. After university, Jake began his career as a barista at the Italian Centre Shop in Edmonton. 2019 brought the opportunity to come back home and run/own the Penny. Eileen Abbott was the former owner and her love for the restaurant industry inspired her to work at, and eventually own the Penny for almost 30 years (1993-2019). Today, the Penny Coffee House has over twenty staff, each who brings their own unique experience and expertise. We are pleased to serve Lethbridge and love being a community hub for our customers.

COMMUNITY HUB

The Penny is often a hub of activity in downtown Lethbridge. Every day of the week, and from each corner of town, customers gather at our centrally-located coffee house to enjoy the very best French Press Coffee and to indulge in treats that are Baked Daily on site. Some come to catch up with old friends, others to work or to read the newspaper, and some to gather inspiration with a sketchbook in-hand. Many business meetings, first-dates, and interviews have taken place at our tables. Local clubs hold regular meet-ups, and art-lovers come in to check out and purchase local art.

On the first Friday of each month, we give a free French Press Coffee with the purchase of any food item. Also, we are pleased to offer a 10% discount to SAAG, CKXU and Runners Soul Marathon Club Members. We love this community, and are proud to support local charities. Among these are Big Brothers and Sisters of Lethbridge, the Runners Soul Lost Soul Ultra, and the Police Half Marathon.
